PM Modi on Friday said the 2019 Lok Sabha elections were not an election to a municipal body and that national security was also an issue in addition to providing housing and cooking gas to the poor as well as electricity in 18,000 villages. He said this during an exclusive interview to Aaj Tak in Varanasi on Friday.
“This time my focus is on providing housing and cooking gas to the poor and electricity in 18,000 villages. National security is also an issue, this is not an election to a municipal body,” PM Modi said.
Delving further into this, PM Modi said in a national election, the nation’s security, border issues and terrorism were all equally important issues. He added that these were not issues someone could run away from and a discussion on national security was imperative.
“In a national election, national security, border issues, terrorism will all be issues. Nobody can run away, there must be discussion on national security,” PM Modi said.
Training his guns on the opposition, he said that “they” were running away from the main issues. He said the media was doing injustice by not highlighting security issues. He said it was the media’s responsibility to keep people aware about issues of national security.
“I can agree it doesn’t suit the opposition and they are running away. but media is doing injustice to the nation by not highlighting security issues,” PM Modi said.
