How to Draw a Shark

Learn how to draw a shark by following this step-by-step tutorial.

Edit Steps

Method One: Draw a Cartoon Shark

  1. Draw a circle. Below the circle, draw a curved line extending to the left with a cone shaped end.

  2. Draw a pointed angle on the right side of the circle.

  3. Sketch a “fish tail” on the bottom of the drawing using angled shapes.

  4. Draw the shark’s fins. These are characterized by being pointy and slightly curved.

  5. Draw the shark’s nostrils and the eyes using an egg-like shape. Add a curved line for the eyebrows. Real sharks do not have big eyes like these but it’s okay to use your imagination for cartoon versions.

  6. Draw the shark’s mouth. Sharks are known to have really sharp teeth, you can draw its teeth using triangles.

  7. Sketch out the shark’s body from the outline.

  8. Darken the fins and tail.

  9. Draw the shark’s gill slits using three curved lines. For a cartoon shark, you can divide the body into the posterior and anterior parts using a line across the body.

  10. Erase unnecessary lines.

  11. Color the drawing.

Method Two: Draw a Simple Shark

  1. Draw a triangle with the pointed angle facing the right. Stretch out the triangle by elongating the shape using two not so straight lines across and end it with a vertical line. At the left side of the drawing, draw a curved triangle with the pointed angle facing downwards.

  2. Draw the shark’s fins using triangles. The shark has pectoral fins, dorsal fins and anal fins.

  3. Add the tail using slender angles pointing towards opposite directions.

  4. Using the outline and sketch the shark’s head. Add the eyes, nostrils and mouth.

  5. Darken the lines for the fins and tail.

  6. Darken the lines of the shark’s body based on the outline.

  7. Add five lines on the side of the shark for its gill slits. Divide the shark into anterior and posterior part usually because of its color. The posterior part is darker in shade. Divide the drawing using slanted strokes right across the shark’s body.

  8. Erase unnecessary lines.

  9. Color the drawing.

How to Draw Bart Simpson

Want to get to know more about the design of the characters on The Simpsons? For starters, here's a quick and easy tutorial on how to draw Bart.

Edit Steps

  1. Start off with a sketch of a rectangle for the head and a smaller rectangle for the neck. Add some guidelines (not too darkly) for the face.

  2. At the top of the head rectangle, draw spikes or zigzags for the hair. The spikes should blend into his forehead without any discernible hairline. (Don’t make them too large; Bart’s hair is not his primary feature, and you don’t want to take attention away from other parts of his body.)

  3. Draw the facial features. Draw two overlapping circles for the eyeballs and two small circles inside the larger ones for the pupils. The eyeballs should be more in the middle of the face than near the top, and make sure to space them evenly. Next, add a small oval for the nose and a half circle for the ear. Don’t draw the mouth for now.

  4. For the body, draw two overlapping circles. The circle on the top should be smaller than the circle on the bottom.

  5. Draw two connected ovals for each arm, a circle for the hand, and smaller ovals for the fingers. The finger ovals should be more elongated than the others, and if you want to draw him holding something, curl them around each other.

  6. For both legs, draw rectangles. Add a half oval to each for the feet. Sketch in a T-shirt, shorts, and shoes. Keep them basic–Bart’s attire is characterized by its simplicity.

  7. Outline the whole image and curve the lower part of his head to make the mouth. Add in more details and erase the guidelines.

  8. Color in your drawing and there you go! Bart Simpson himself, clothed in red-orange T-shirt, blue shorts and shoes, with trademark Simpson-yellow skin.

Edit Tips

  • Draw lightly in pencil so that you can easily rub out mistakes.

    • As an animated character, Bart has been drawn many times by both fans and storyboard creators on The Simpsons, and has many incarnations. If you’re a first-timer you should probably stick to the tutorial, but you can also make changes to some of Bart’s features and give him your own unique spin.

Today is World Oceans Day! Learn how to draw ocean waves

Throwing a party with an under the sea theme? Trying to draw a background for a dolphin or mermaid? You’ve come to the right place–in this tutorial you will learn how to draw different kinds of ocean waves.

Edit Steps

Stylized Waves

  1. Draw two parallel lines and one circle. The lines should create a “road” that the circle is at one end of.
  2. Draw curved lines that intersect the parallel lines.
  3. Add curled lines roughly corresponding with the curved lines. The curled lines should be around the ends facing the circle.
  4. Connect the lines to create pointy tongues of water that curve up and around the circle.
  5. Add drops around the image.
  6. Erase excess lines.
  7. Color the drawing. Use many nuances of blue.

Alternate Method

  1. Draw two lines. The first one should be almost straight, but the one on the right should have some more curve to it.
  2. Add three curved lines. These will become the tops of waves.
  3. Draw three lines on the right wave to represent the current. Draw a line on the left wave to continue the top of the wave.
  4. Add more lines to represent the current. On top of the waves, draw squiggle lines for whitecaps.
  5. Add shading if desired.
  6. Erase unnecessary guidelines.
  7. Color the drawing.

Today is the anniversary of Star Wars opening in 1977. How to Draw Yoda

Learn to draw the most powerful Jedi Master in the Star Wars universe–and the coolest one to boot! This tutorial will walk you through drawing Yoda in just a few easy steps.

Edit Steps

  1. Draw a large circle for the head/face. Underneath the circle, draw a curved line as shown in the image. Once you’re happy with your shapes, add guidelines for the face.

  2. Draw two curved triangles for Yoda’s ears. Fill in the detail as shown. Draw Yoda’s eyes, small nose, and mouth as shown, then add in his wrinkles and a few strands of hair.

  3. Sketch in the body. Draw an oval for the torso and each arm as a series of linked circles, as shown in the image. Add three fingers to the end of each hand. Put a walking stick in his right hand. Don’t worry about creating precise details, since as many of the body features won’t be seen.

  4. Add in Yoda’s legs. As with the arms, draw them as interlinked circles. Finish each leg up with feet and large, round toes. His position is up to you, but if you want him to be sitting down or facing a different direction, then alter the remaining steps slightly.

  5. Sketch in his robe and cloak as shown. To depict the flowing movement of the cloth, draw in the lines as indicated.

  6. Use permanent ink or dark pencil to outline the parts of Yoda shown in the image. Add shadows/highlighting if you wish. Erase all remaining guidelines.

  7. Color Yoda in using the basic color scheme shown here. Your Jedi Master is now complete. Whatever you decide to do with your drawing, may the force be with you!

How to Draw a Brain

Drawing a brain is not overly complicated provided you follow these straight-forward steps.

Edit Steps

Method 1: Artistic Version

  1. Begin by drawing to concave shapes or half-moon shapes. Draw a larger one for the cerebral cortex of the brain and then a smaller one on its lower right side for its cerebellum.

  2. Draw swirly lines on the left-side of the brain.

  3. Draw the right-side of the brain by drawing again the swirly lines.

  4. Draw thin and compact lines on the smaller concave shape of the brain or on the cerebellum.

  5. Draw the spinal cord on lower-middle part of the brain.

  6. Outline your drawing by using a pen or marker. Erase your penciled sketched to cleanup your drawing.

  7. Color it and you’re done. You can color it any way you want also.

Method 2: Anatomically Accurate Version

  1. Learn the different parts of the brain.

  2. Find a picture of a brain and study the locations of each of the parts.

  3. Draw a curve in the shape of the top half (lengthwise) of an egg.

  4. Lightly draw a line underneath it, so the shape looks like a stretched out semi-circle. The semi circle marks out the space for the frontal lobe, parietal lobe, and occipital lobe.

  5. Draw a small lump less than half the length of the oval underneath it. This is the cerebellum.

  6. Draw the medulla oblongata and the pons. The pons is a small, round area right in front of the cerebellum. The medulla oblongata extends out of the pons slightly diagonal towards the spinal cord.

  7. Draw a long oval at a slight angle above the cerebellum and extending past it. This is the temporal lobe.

  8. See the picture to the right to add more detail and for clarity.

Cartoon Version

  1. Draw an oval sideways. Determine the size of your drawing by making the oval larger or smaller, depending on your needs.

  2. Draw a curvy line that goes down the center of the oval. This curvy line should commence from the left side of the oval and go across the oval to the other side.

  3. Draw a bunch of squiggly lines through the oval shape. This gives the distinctive brain texture to the drawing.

  4. Draw a curvy cord at the bottom of the brain. The cord connects the brain to the rest of your body.

  5. Draw something around it, like a robot.

Edit Tips

  • Make medium-sized squiggles, and make smaller squiggles coming off of them.

How to Draw Bugs Bunny

Everyone’s seen Looney Tunes and laughed at the rollicking adventures of Bugs Bunny. Here’s an easy tutorial on how to draw the rabbit himself.

Edit Steps

  1. Sketch a circle and an oval for Bugs Bunny’s head. Draw two long and pointy oval above the head for the ears, and another set inside each ear. You might also want to cock one of the ears slightly, so it looks like Bugs is listening in on a conversation, or droop them down if you want him to appear sad.

  2. Draw the line of action. Draw a small oval for the neck and an overlapping circle and oval for the body. These shapes are technically round, but Bugs Bunny is fairly wiry, so make them vertical and oblong as depicted here.

  3. For each arm, draw two long, thin ovals. Add a circle for each of his hands.

  4. Connect ovals to each circle for the fingers. They should be a bit thicker than you’d expect, because Bugs wears gloves that cover up his fingers (you’ll add on that part later).

  5. For the legs, draw a rectangle for each leg. Draw an oblong oval for the feet.

  6. Draw three ovals on each foot for the toes. (This step can be difficult to get right, but they don’t have to be perfect, and you can always go back and try to fix them.)

  7. Refocus on the face. Draw a small triangle in the middle of the oval for the nose, and a curvy “w” for the mouth with a small line at each corner, so it looks like a smirk. Under that, draw a square with a half line in the middle for the teeth.

  8. Add in some whiskers and two ovals for the eyes. Draw small circles for the pupils, and fill them in.

  9. Put in some more details, like color separations and gloves. The gloves should have indentations on them and end roundly around his wrists.

  10. Erase the guidelines. Then outline your drawing more darkly.

  11. Color Bugs in and you’re finished! The traditional Bugs Bunny is mostly gray and white, but you can use whatever colors you’d like for your drawing.

Alternate Method

  1. Draw two simple ovals, as shown.

  2. Add two more ovals for the ears.

  3. Now, add rectangles, for legs and one for the arm.

  4. Again, more ovals, for the feet and cheeks.

  5. Draw more lines, add more details…for fingers and legs.

  6. Now, draw his eyes, fingers and other parts.

  7. Erase everything which is not needed anymore and shape the drawing.

  8. Outline the drawing, with pencil or felt pen.

  9. Color the drawing using only gray color, and little bit of pink for is tiny muzzle

Edit Video

Edit Tips

  • Draw lightly in pencil so that you can easily rub out mistakes.
  • Bugs Bunny is anthropomorphic, meaning he has lots of human attributes (for example, talking to Elmer Fudd and walking on two legs), so be sure to incorporate this element into your drawing. If you feel like it, give him clothes or a carrot to stick in his mouth. It’s all about how you want to characterize your drawing, and the sky’s the limit.
